March, 14, standing committee member of the CPPCC and board chairman of Tongwei group Liu Hanyuan shared his experience at the 2011 Two Sessions with all the staff members.
Mr. Liu pointed out, this year is the end of the 11th five year plan, and also the first year of the 12th five year plan. Looking back on the past, how to envisage the next five years has become the distinctive feature of this year’s Two Sessions. China has gained outstanding achievements during the past five years whether in economic, social development, or fiscal revenue. How will China develop in the next 5 to 10 or 20 years has become the joint concern. Therefore, during the Two Sessions, adjustments and confirmation of some important indicators were also in the key content of the discussions.
Additionally, the issue of economic development transition became the crucial demarcation point of the Sessions this time and five year plan. A large part of population think the existing module can barely support the country’s long term steady and sustainable development. The existing module refers to energy and resources consumption, as well as relatively extensive economic development module. Also, many committee members are greatly concerned about food safety and energy safety. For this mission, Tongwei needs to make unremitting efforts.
About the recent earthquake in Japan, Mr. Liu expressed his deep concern about nuclear transfer methods and the recycling placement procedures. He said, this catastrophe shows that the earth is always restless with the plates floating on the earth’s surface, like broken egg shells. It also showed us the potential danger of nuclear power from another angle. Currently, China is the country with the largest number of nuclear plants under construction, which accounts for over 70% of the world’s newly increased total. It is quite a hassle to deal with the nuclear waste. How do we ensure the safety of the nuclear power in face of natural disasters or terrorist attacks? This has posed a big threat to human’s future development and existence. Currently, we have restrictions on carbon dioxide emission, but not with nuclear waste, which is more threatening. The key point of China’s sustainable development and realization of economic growth module transition lies in tapping new resources. Finding a good source, promoting the development of an emerging industry to lead the change of global energy supply pattern - this is supposed to be the historic responsibility, moral responsibility, self-security responsibility, as well as the world’s security responsibility of China’s development.
